New Chief Sworn in for Hopewell Valley Emergency Services

At the same station where he first volunteered in 1997, Jonathan “JD” Moore was sworn in as the new chief of Hopewell Valley Emergency Services on Jan. 2, 2025 at the Union Fire Company, succeeding longtime leader Matthew Martin and marking a homegrown transition in public service.

Chief Moore was hired as a Specialist with Hopewell Valley in 2003 and rose through the ranks being named Deputy Chief in 2023. A graduate of Hopewell Valley Central High School, Chief Moore holds an assortment of advanced certifications in fire science as well as being a New Jersey Certified Public Manager. Chief Moore has received several Life Saving Awards over his career and a unit citation for his work during Super Storm Sandy.

Joined by his wife, Kate and Daughter, Emma, the oath of office was administered by Kevin Hart, attorney for the Fire District.

Upon swearing in, Chief Moore stated, “I will continue the programs started by Chief Martin while helping our department grow with the needs of our community and continuing our great relationship with our Valley Volunteer firefighters.”
