The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced that drivers should expect overnight right lane closures in both directions at the Pennington Circle, pm Route 31 where Route 31 meets Washington Crossing Road, Blackwell Road, and Pennington Road in Hopewell Township. The project is part of a pavement preservation project in Mercer and Hunterdon counties.
Beginning at 9pm tonight, Monday, May 20, until 6am tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, the right lane on Route 31 northbound and southbound is scheduled to be closed at the traffic circle in Hopewell Township. The lane closures are necessary for pavement repairs. At least one lane will be maintained during construction. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while driving through the work zone.
This work is part of a $5.7 million federally funded project that will preserve approximately 11 miles of pavement on Route 31 between Brandon Road in Hopewell, Mercer County and Route 202 in East Amwell, Hunterdon County. This project includes paving most ramps within the project limits. This project is expected to be completed in fall 2024.
