Police Citizens Academy Provided a Better Understanding of the Department

by Community Contributor

To the Editor:

I’d like to take a moment to commend the Hopewell Township Police Department for offering the “Hopewell Township Police Citizens Academy.” I recently completed the program, and it was a genuinely eye-opening experience.

It gave me a much deeper understanding of how our local police operate behind the scenes, the professionalism, teamwork, and care that go into keeping the community safe. More than anything, it reminded me that police officers are people first. They carry enormous responsibility and are often exposed to difficult and traumatic situations that most of us never have to face. Seeing that side of their work gave me a new level of respect for the job they do.

I want to especially recognize Sgt. Adam Liotta, P/O James Klesney, P/O Maria Gavdanovich, and Det. Steven Ciosek for their professionalism, patience, and willingness to share their knowledge. They made the program engaging, informative, and welcoming for everyone involved.

My thanks also go to Chief Russo and the entire Hopewell Township Police Department for their commitment to transparency and community connection. Programs like this strengthen the trust and understanding between residents and the police, and I’m grateful to have been part of it.
