Volunteer Group to Collect Food at Pennington Farmers’ Market to Supplement Children’s Summer Meals

by MercerMe Staff

Who doesn’t love summer — a time of fun, friends, and freedom. Unfortunately, for hundreds of children who receive free or reduced-priced lunches during the school year, summertime can also mean hunger. In fact, 43% of families who participate in school lunch programs report they find themselves without enough food during the summer months.

Many of these families seek supplemental food from the free food pantries of Arm in Arm (formerly The Crisis Ministry) in Trenton and Princeton. To assist in restocking the pantries with fresh fruit and vegetables, Yes We CAN! Food Drives will collect food at the Pennington Farmers’ Market on Saturday, July 15, from 9-1. The market is located at Rosedale Mills, on Route 31 in Pennington, one mile north of Pennington Quality Market.

In addition to fresh food from the farmers’ market, Yes We CAN! volunteers will collect canned or boxed food. Any donated cash will be used to purchase food directly from the farmers.

Yes We CAN! Food Drives is dedicated to fighting the effects of hunger by organizing food drives at Pennington Quality Market, Princeton McCaffrey’s and the West Windsor Farmers’ Market. Last year, the volunteer group collected 17, 500 pounds of food on behalf of Arm in Arm.  To volunteer or learn more about Yes We CAN!, click on www.yeswecanfooddrives.org.
