As of October 25, 2024, the U.S. Drought Monitor map indicates that the northwest portion of Hopewell Township is experiencing a D2 drought (severe), while the remainder is under a D1 drought (moderate). In light of the ongoing lack of significant rainfall, and with none forecast for the near future, Hopewell Township kindly asks everyone to voluntarily comply with water conservation measures outlined in Hopewell Township Ordinance 16-5.2(c):
D2: Severe Drought Restrictions:
- No watering of established lawns, landscaped areas, or woody vegetation.
- Watering for new plantings is limited to once per week.
- Car washing is prohibited.
- No filling or topping off of pools.
Additionally, fire danger is very high, and there are Stage 3 Fire Restrictions in place throughout New Jersey. Relative humidity is low, and that, combined with west winds of 10-15 mph and temperatures in the low to mid 60s, can create an environment that supports rapid spread of any ignited fires, making them difficult to control.
Important Safety Reminders:
- All fires are prohibited unless contained in an elevated stove using only propane, natural gas, gas, or electricity.
- No charcoal fires are allowed.
Relative humidity values are expected to remain similar over the weekend, with stronger wind gusts. Please stay vigilant and follow all safety guidelines.
Your cooperation is vital during this challenging time. Thank you for doing your part to conserve water and protect our community’s resources.
