Driving through Pennington Borough remains a challenge as gas line replacement work continues, with new detours set to take effect this week. Pennington has released updated road closures for this week that include:
Delaware Avenue Closures
Detour 13 will stay in place through Monday, September 8, closing:
- Eglantine Avenue at East Delaware Avenue
- Burd Street at West Delaware Avenue
- North Main Street at West Franklin Avenue (thru traffic blocked)
- South Main Street at Academy Court (thru traffic blocked)
Residents, emergency vehicles, and essential services such as deliveries and garbage pickup are permitted access.
Starting Tuesday, September 9, Detour 16 will take over:
- Delaware Avenue will be closed to thru traffic at NJ 31 and West Delaware Avenue
- The Delaware and Main Street intersection will be closed
Access to Pennington School and Pennington Market will remain available from Route 31.
Route 31 Night Work
Nighttime work continues along Route 31 North, but no closures or detours are planned.
Broemel Place & Green Street
Detour 12 remains in effect through Saturday, September 13, closing:
- NJ 31 at Broemel Place
- West Delaware Avenue at Green Street
- Green Street at Brookside Place
As with other closures, residents, emergency vehicles, and essential services can still get through.
Looking Ahead
Work crews are scheduled to begin daily at 9 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Borough officials urge drivers to plan alternate routes and allow extra time when traveling through Pennington during the project.
