Join the Pennington Public Library with Faith Ringgold: Artist, Author, Educator, Organizer on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, 7-8:15 pm via Zoom with presenter, Janet Mandel, Arts Educator. Registration required.
Born in Harlem in 1930 and still productive and relevant today, Faith Ringgold once said, “Your job is to tell your story. Your story has to come out of your life, your environment, who you are, where you come from.” Her provocative and politically honest work, which reimagines art history, is born of that commitment. Best known for her story quilts, she also creates politically charged paintings, prints, sculptures, public art, performance art, and more. And at 91 she still says there is “a lot of work left to do.” Faith Ringgold: Artist, Author, Educator, Organizer will give you an in-depth look at this formidable woman whose life and works continue to astonish art lovers around the world.
About Our Presenter: Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey’s public schools for 32 years, the last eighteen of which were at Columbia High School in Maplewood, where she taught English, art history, and world languages and cultures. Now retired, Janet presents illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics at adult schools, libraries, museums, senior centers, community centers, and similar venues.
