Award-winning HVCHS theater program presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream

by MercerMe Staff

Hopewell Valley Central High School (HVCHS) is presenting A Midsummer Night’s Dream on November 2 and 3 at 7:30 pm at the High School’s Performing Arts Center. One of William Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, the play combines magic and whimsy, with hilarious results. Tickets are available online at Showtix4U.com and at the door.

Set during the summer of love, 1969, this version of the classic tale features the music of the late 1960s along with the original text of the play. The story unfolds both in the modern world of the 60s and the bohemian forest life of the faeries. Featuring a large and colorful cast of characters, including hapless lovers, jealous faeries, and a group of actors rehearsing a play for a royal wedding, this tale of love and loss unfolds over the course of two rollicking days.

Led by HVCHS’s Director of Theatre, Katie Rochon, Hopewell Valley thespians have received numerous awards in the last several years. Last January, a selection from the school’s 2017 fall performance of Picnic received the top award for “Best Chapter Select Presentation” at the New Jersey Thespian Festival. Picnic was nominated for six NJ “Foxy” Awards, which are presented by Montclair State University. The Hopewell actors won the 2018 Foxy Award for “Best Dramatic Ensemble,” and current senior Madeline Carleton received the award for “Best Supporting Actress.”

In addition, current senior Caroline Herbert received a Rising Star Award for “Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role” from the prestigious Paper Mill Playhouse for her performance in HVCHS’ winter 2018 musical, the Drowsy Chaperone. The school also won the 2017 Foxy Award for Best Comedy Ensemble for its fall 2016 production of Noises Off.

Several of the school’s performers have appeared at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska over the last few years and graduates of the program have gone on to leading collegiate performing arts programs.

All performances will be at the Performing Arts Center at Hopewell Valley Central High School 259 Pennington-Titusville Road, Pennington NJ.  A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at 7:30 pm at the Performing Arts Center at Hopewell Valley Central High School.
