Holiday Tech 2016: Riding the Mobile Digital Revolution

by Community Contributor

The digital revolution keeps exploding, and continually extending mobile devices into our lives — from enhancing our senses with drones and VR goggles to connecting us with remote devices that monitor our homes and even our own health. The Hopewell Public Library has asked Doug Dixon back to keep us up to date on Wednesday November 2nd at 7:00pm at the Hopewell Train Station.

For this 15th edition of his Holiday Tech coverage, Doug Dixon will demonstrate more fun examples of the latest cool devices. We also will look back to see the amazing innovation in mobile digital products that got us to this point, and look forward to the possibilities of the future.

Check out the new gadgets hands-on, and enjoy some fun artifacts of the past, to see how far we’ve come as we ride the mobile digital revolution.

Fifteen years ago the growth line of digital technology and storage passed legacy analog, launching the mobile digital revolution of the 2000s. Or, more viscerally, 2002 also was the year that the Encyclopædia Britannica discontinued its print edition, 244 years after its first publication.

The last past decade and a half has seen amazing innovation in digital products — cell phones and PDAs to smartphones, CD and MP3 players to media players, hard disks to flash memory, laptops to netbooks and convertibles, and Web to cloud and social media.

Hopewell Borough resident Doug Dixon is an independent technology consultant, specializing in Web data analysis, digital media, and portable devices. He has been writing and speaking on digital media for over a decade and a half, and providing annual holiday gadget coverage in the Princeton area since 2002.

Doug previously was a product manager and software developer at Intel and at Sarnoff in Princeton. He has authored four books on digital media, published hundreds of feature articles, and presented over a hundred seminars and talks. He makes his articles and technical references freely available on his Manifest Technology website and blog at Manifest-Tech.com.

Hopewell Public Library’s Wednesday Night Out Series is held at the Hopewell Train Station, 2 Railroad Place in Hopewell Borough, on the first Wednesday of the month. For more information check our website at redlibrary.org, on Facebook, or call 466-1625.
