This reporter had the great pleasure of attending the 60th Reunion for the CHS Class of 1964 today, Saturday, April 27, held in the Titusville Presbyterian Church Hall.
The Hall was decorated in classic HoVal black and gold, and an entire table was filled with memorabilia – a Commencement program, a Baccalaureate program, yearbooks, student photos, and prom photos, but what caught my eye the most were two gorgeous class photos – a graduation photo, and one from a class trip to Washington, DC in 1964.
I spoke to several alumni in attendance, and was regaled with stories of high school, great friendships, bad breakups, and even a lunch woman (Doris VanDyke’s mom), would always give the kids an extra helping of mashed potatoes. In addition, Randy Niederer told me, quite proudly I believe, that in his class, he held the record for his number of absences.
Niederer also noted that while HoVal reunions are normally every five years, the Class of ‘64’s first reunion had to be postponed because many men from the class were serving in the Vietnam war.
I also met Evelyn Guthrie at the reunion. Evelyn was a student teacher to this class in both Junior High and High School. I was impressed that she attended the reunion. She told me that she came because she liked this Class the best, because they were her first.
After a great lunch, the classmates continued to reminisce and make plans to get together. I hope I am free to attend their 65th
