HVCS Sports Roundup: Ice Hockey, Boys’ Basketball End Playoff Runs in Defeat

The Hopewell Valley Central High School Bulldogs made deep runs into end-of-season tournaments in both ice hockey and boys’ basketball last week, but both seasons ended in disappointment. 

Hopewell Valley Boys’ Basketball Season Ends in Heartbreak

On March 1, the Hopewell Valley boys basketball team lost to Colts Neck High School in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA, Central Jersey Group 3 tournament in dramatic fashion. 

Colts Neck defeated the Bulldogs 40 to 38, winning on a last second buzzer beater. The score was 38-to-38 for most of the last four minutes of the game, as both teams played great defense and it came down to the last-second basket for Colts Neck. 

Jude Berman had 15 points and Ethan Rich added 8 points for the Bulldogs. With the win, Colts Neck advances to the Semi-Final game against Freehold Boro. 

Overall, the Bulldogs had a great season, ending with a strong record of 21-7.

Tremendous Season Comes to an End for Hopewell Valley Ice Hockey

On Monday, March 3, , the Bulldogs came up short 3 to 2 against Governor Livingston High School in the semi-final round of the NJSIAA Sectional Tournament. 

Owen Thedinga scored one goal and Evan Jacob added an assist for the Bulldogs in the loss. 

Winning this game would have brought Hopewell to the Sectional Final game, but the tenacious team came up short. The loss concludes Hopewell Valley’s successful 2024-2025 season. The Bulldogs finished with a 25-3 overall record.
