by Mary Galioto

At 11:53 a.m. on February 10, 2015, the Hopewell Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on S.H. 31 at the intersection of N. Main Street.

Patricia M. Chang, a 54 year old female, from Montreal, Canada was operating a 2011 BMW in the left turn lane from S.H. 31 waiting to turn left onto Tree Farm Road. Ms. Chang then decided to turn right, re-entering the northbound lane of travel for S.H. 31 and struck a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck towing a sixteen foot landscaping trailer operated by Christopher Miller, a 55 year old male from Dorothy, NJ. The pickup truck and trailer then struck a guard rail on the northbound side of S.H. 31and traveled down an embankment. Neither driver reported injuries at the scene. A passenger in the BMW and a passenger in the Chevrolet also did not report any injuries at the scene.

The Chevrolet pickup truck then became engulfed in flames secondary to a ruptured fuel line which occurred during the crash.

The Pennington Fire Company, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, and the Hopewell Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire.

The crash is under investigation by P/O James Hoffman of the Hopewell Township Police Department. Ms. Chang was issued a summons for careless driving.
