Local Girls Gymnastics Team Going to World Championship

by MercerMe Staff

A group of twenty-two young girls, from all over Mercer County have been working tirelessly to push their own personal and competitive goals, in Ewing. The Schafer’s Sport Center Girls Gymnastics Team, a USAIGC (United States Association of Independent Gymnastic Clubs) team, consists of ordinary kids, aged five to twelve, with extraordinary abilities.

“These girls are role models to our entire recreational gymnastics program and especially our pre-team,” said Nóra Siklósi-Szabó, a parent of one of the team members. “Their positive behavior and attitude is something that we expect from our team because there is always someone watching and wanting to grow-up to be just like them!”

Practicing 12-20 hours a week at the gym, they continue to succeed at their meets.  In 2018, the team had eight State Champions and one World Champion. In the regular season competitions, the team has won over 60 first place awards as well hundreds of additional awards.

This summer, the team will be attending the USAIGC World Championships this summer in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Going to competition is extremely expensive some of them can not come because of financial reasons,” Siklósi-Szabó explained.

The team plans on taking with them the motto of their coaches, Brittani Ashley and Kelly Klemmer: “You will always miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.”

To find out more or support this team, please contact Schafer Sports directly at 5 Graphics Drive Ewing, NJ 08628, and make sure to specify that your support is for the USAIGC team.
