The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office will continue its free child car seat safety check program throughout 2026, offering monthly inspections at the Colonial Fire Company in Hamilton Township.
The on-site safety checks take place at 801 Kuser Road and are designed to help parents, grandparents, and expecting families ensure that children are properly secured in vehicles. The program is partially funded through a grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety and is supported by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey.
During each session, trained and certified sheriff’s officers will inspect child safety seats for correct installation and confirm that children are using the appropriate seat based on their age and size.
Sheriff John A. Kemler said the program is part of the department’s long-standing commitment to child safety. He encouraged caregivers to take advantage of the free inspections to help ensure children are protected while traveling in vehicles.
Car seat inspections will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month in 2026. Inspections are conducted in a weather-protected area at the rear of the firehouse. There will be no inspections in December due to the holiday season.
