Obituary: Robert A. Wilson

Robert A. Wilson, Sr. 86, passed away on March 13, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Trenton, NJ, was a graduate of Flemington High School class of 1955, and a graduate of McAlister School of Embalming in New York City. He became a licensed funeral director in 1957 after completing his practical work at Bellevue Hospital in New York City.

He was past president of Hopewell Valley Lions Club, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award; Past Master of Trenton-Cyrus Masonic Lodge in Pennington; Past Patron of Ashlar Chapter O.E.S.; a 33 degree Mason with the Scottish Rite Valley of Central Jersey and was its Director of Music; Grand Chaplin for the 15th District in New Jersey from 2002-2003; he belonged to the Shrine and Crescent Temple; was past president of the Pennington First Aid Squad; he belonged to the Pennington Fire Company; past president of the Hopewell Valley Kiwanis Club; member of the Vigilant Association; member of the Ewing-Covenant Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and trustee; The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, St. George RC Church in Titusville, the Mercer County Funeral Directors Association; the National Funeral Directors Association; member of the Trenton Elks #105, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association having a commercial pilots license; and member of the Hopewell Valley Country Club. He owned and operated the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home in Pennington, New Jersey for more than 60 years. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar Hunt Wilson and Helen May Nightengale Wilson; a brother, Edgar, Jr.; and a sister Joyce Helen Thorndike; he is survived by his wife, Donna Marie; son, R. Asher Wilson, Jr. (Christina); daughter, Gwendolen Torrens (Raul); grandchildren, Ashley Wilson and Robert Wilson, Ill; Alyssa (Randy) Donovan, Izak, Anya, and Clara Torrens, great-grandson Theodore Donovan.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11am at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington, NJ 08534 with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey A. Vamos and Father Steve Sansevere officiating. Friends may call Sunday 2 – 5pm and Monday 9:30 – 11am. Masonic services will be held.
