Pennington Police Address Facebook Rumors After Exxon Burglary

by Mary Galioto

A local Facebook group ignited community buzz this weekend with rumors of alleged misconduct in Pennington. In response, the Pennington Police Department issued the following statement:

Please see the press release below in response to the false post on the Hopewell Pennington Update FB page.

At approximately 2:08am on August 16, the Pennington Exxon located at Route 31 and West Delaware Avenue was burglarized. Entry was made by smashing the two front glass doors with an unknown object. Officer Friedman was dispatched to the location on the report of an activated burglar alarm. Upon his arrival, he saw that the front doors were smashed out. He, along with the assistance of members of the Hopewell Twp Police Department, cleared the building and found that the subjects had left prior to his arrival. It appears that this was an isolated incident and no other businesses were affected as of the time of this notification. There were no reported injuries as the building was unoccupied at the time. If anyone has any information, please contact the Pennington Borough Police Dept at 609-737-2020.
