Mail Theft Leads to Fraud Attempt
A resident reported mail theft to the Hopewell Township Police Department (HPTD) on August 13. Officer George Peterson met with the victim at police headquarters, where it was reported that an envelope containing a check had been stolen from the victim’s mailbox. The check, mailed on August 22, was discovered missing on August 27 when the victim’s bank alerted them to an attempted fraudulent cashing by an unknown party. The bank provided additional information, and the investigation remains active.
License Plate Stolen, Investigation Ongoing
A resident reported, on August 29, Officer Blake DeMeter, that their license plate had been stolen from the front of their vehicle, The plate was found missing on August 29 and determined to have last been seen on August 24. It is unknown when or where the plate was stolen, however, the investigation is ongoing.
Drunk Driver Traveling in Wrong Lane on Woosamonsa
Officer James Hoffman responded to the area of Trenton Harbourton Road near Woosamonsa Road for a reported driver traveling in the wrong lane on August 29 at 8:26pm. Upon arrival, Officer Hoffman observed the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop in the same location. The driver was found to be exhibiting signs of intoxication. Roadside sobriety tests were conducted and the driver was placed under arrest for DUI after completion. The driver was found in possession of suspected controlled dangerous substances (heroin), was transported to HTPD for processing, and was later released from police custody. The driver was charged with DUI, reckless driving, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, among other motor vehicle violations. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.
Dirt Bike Stolen in Van Dyke Road Burglary
Residents at a Van Dyke Road address contacted the HTPD on September 2, for a reported burglary and theft from a trailer on the property. The victim stated, to responding Officer Collin Brigham, that their dirt bike was stolen from their trailer in front of the residence. The dirt bike was stolen on August 31 at 4:36am, as it was seen on home surveillance. The Honda dirt bike was valued at $2,500. The investigation is active and ongoing.
Suspects Sought in $700 Stop&Shop Theft
On September 6, Sgt Mark Panzano responded to the Stop&Shop for a reported shoplifting on September 2. Loss prevention provided video of the two suspects taking over $700 worth of various items from the store. One suspect was identified by loss prevention due to previous contacts. Both parties are seen leaving the store without payment. The investigation is active and ongoing.
Mail Theft Leads to Attempted $25K Check Fraud
A resident reported mail theft to the Hopewell Township Police Department (HPTD) on September 6. Officer Brigham met with the victim at police headquarters, where it was reported that their check was stolen from the mail. The victim’s bank alerted the victim of an attempted transaction using her check for $25,580. The transaction was stopped before any loss of funds was incurred. Further information regarding the transaction was provided to Officer Brigham, and the investigation is active.
$3,900 in Fraudulent Charges Reported
The victim of a fraud met with Officer Brandon Kuzma in the HTPD lobby, on September 6. The victim reported they found multiple fraudulent transactions on their credit and debit cards. The transactions occurred in Dallas, Texas on September 6. The total amount charged was reported as $3,910.62. The charges were made at a car rental service in Dallas. The investigation is ongoing.
