Stop & Shop Thefts, Dog Park Break-In Investigated

Shoplifter Loads Cart, Leaves Without Paying

On January 8 at 6:29pm, Officer Marisaa McCallum responded to the Stop & Shop on Denow Road for a reported shoplifting. Loss prevention reported that the incident took place on January 5 at 6:04pm. A female subject entered the store, loaded a shopping cart with various items, and left without payment. The total estimated cost of products was reported as $472.73. The incident is under investigation.

Bank Fraud Victim Reports $4,896 Loss

On January 11, Officer Ryan Finnegan met with the victim of fraud in the Hopewell Township Police Department (HTPD) lobby. The victim advised that she was reviewing her bank account statements for the year and found a fraudulent transaction that took place on August 20, 2024. A fraudulent transaction withdrew $4,896.81 against her account. The information was provided to both law enforcement and the victim’s bank as the transaction is being disputed. The investigation is ongoing.

Vehicle Window Smashed, Purse Stolen at Dog Park

On January 11, Officer Brandon Kuzma responded to a Federal City Road address for a reported burglary into a vehicle. The victim reported that she parked her vehicle at 1:30pm at the dog park. Approximately 20 minutes later, she was alerted by another party that her vehicle’s window was smashed. When the victim returned to her vehicle, she found that her purse was missing. The total value of items stolen was reported as approximately $800, which included the purse, cash, and car key – among other items. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Stop & Shop Reports Two Thefts Same Day

On January 12, Officer Kuzma responded to the Stop & Shop on Denow Road for a reported shoplifting which occurred on January 10 at 5:30pm. The female subject is seen entering the store and taking various items totaling $1,276.74 in goods and leaving without payment. The investigation is ongoing.

On the same date, another shoplifting was reported at the same location to Sgt Mark Panzano. This incident involved $631 in goods stolen by a male subject who entered the store at 6:46pm on January 12. Both incidents are under investigation.

Tools, Equipment Stolen in Barn Burglary

On January 15, Officer Arthur Juba responded to a Pennington Hopewell address for a reported burglary of a detached barn. The locks were reportedly cut and $717 of items were stolen from inside – generally tools and equipment. The incident occurred between January 10 and 15. The investigation is ongoing.

Police Investigate $160 ShopRite Theft

On January 15, Officer Brandon Kuzma responded to ShopRite of Pennington for a reported shoplifting. Loss prevention reported that a female subject was seen entering the store and taking $160 in various items without payment. The incident took place on January 14 at 10:13am. The investigation is ongoing.

Reed Road Crash Leads to DUI Charges

On January 16, Officer Eric Lei responded to Reed Rd for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, Lei made contact with the driver who showed physical signs of intoxication on scene and was instructed to perform field sobriety testing. The driver was subsequently arrested, transported to HTPD for processing, and was later released from custody after being served with charges for DUI and reckless driving. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.
