Washington Crossing Bridge to Close to Traffic for Four Hours on April 21

by Community Contributor

The Washington Crossing Toll-Supported Bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, for scheduled maintenance work.

The temporary closure will allow crews to complete several repairs on the narrow, aging span, including reseating a loose steel-grate roadway section on the Pennsylvania side, repainting the centerline, and patching and recoating the New Jersey approach roadway.

While vehicle access will be restricted during the work, the bridge’s pedestrian walkway will remain open.

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes during the closure. The closest crossings are the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge approximately 2.5 miles to the south and the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge about 6.9 miles to the north.

The bridge connects Upper Makefield Township, Pennsylvania, with Hopewell Township in Mercer County.

Officials noted the closure is weather-dependent and may be adjusted if conditions change.
