19th Annual Lawrence Township Economic Development Award Recipients

On October 11, 2017, the Lawrence Township Growth and Redevelopment Committee, in conjunction with the MIDJersey Chamber of Commerce, conducted an awards program. The awards are given to businesses, individuals, and civic groups that have enhanced the community in a special way: for job growth, expanding the tax base of the Township, building or renovating a structure that improves the quality of life in the community, or by participating in local activities that benefit the Township and its residents.

The awards were presented in seven categories with two awards made this year in the Mayor’s Award category:

1) The Mayor’s Award for Economic or Community Development

This award is given to a business, civic group, public official, or program that deserves special recognition for its efforts on behalf of the community.

2017 Recipient: Rider University, 2083 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrence Township, NJ

2017 Recipient: The Lawrenceville School, 2500 Main Street, Lawrence Township, NJ

2) The New Large Business Award

This award recognizes a successful new business (start-up or relocation) recently established in Lawrence Township.

2017 Recipient:Costco Wholesale, 4100 Quakerbridge Road, Lawrence Township, NJ

Joan & Joe Willis, Willis Greenhouses, Business Service Award

3) The New Small Business Award

This award is given to a small employer, family, or individual business that makes a special contribution to Lawrence Township. This category recognizes the entrepreneurs that occupy the smaller spaces among the Township’s office and retail properties.

2017 Recipient: Centercourt Club & Sports at Lawrence, 1080 Spruce Street, Lawrence Township, NJ

4) The Business Service Award

This award is presented to a business that has made a significant contribution to the Township’s business or civic community, which may include a major building or renovation project.

2017 Recipient: Willis Greenhouses Incorporated, 1365 Lawrence Road, Lawrence Township, NJ

5) The New Building/Renovation Award

This award recognizes a significant new building or renovation project that enhances its surrounding neighborhood.

2017 Recipient: Valet Auto Wash, 4 Litho Road, Lawrence Township, NJ

6) The Podmore/Dwyer Historic Award

This award celebrates a business, individual or community organization in Lawrence that promotes preservation of Lawrence Township history and/or has provided an effective educational avenue toward advancing knowledge of the Township’s rich history.

2017 Recipient:Ian Burrow, Principal, BurrowIntoHistory, Hopewell, NJ

7) The Ralph Copleman Environmental Award

This award recognizes a business, organization, community group, or individual for environmental sustainability.

2017 Recipient: Junior Girl Scout Troop 70019, Lawrence Township, NJ

The Growth & Redevelopment Committee was created by Lawrence Township Council to consult with and advise Council on matters pertaining to economic development.
