Henry Edward Harbat, a dedicated second generation farmer, loving husband, father, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Pennington, New Jersey, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
Henry was one of two children born to Martha and Emil Harbat at Harbat Farm in Pennington, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lidia Zamudio Harbat, daughter Caroline Harbat Baker and son Steven Harbat. Also surviving are brother Erwin Harbat, stepdaughter, Lee Leeper, and a loving circle of family and friends, who will cherish his memory.
Born on November 12, 1937 on Harbat Farm, he spent the rest of his life cultivating crops and making lasting connections with the land and his community. He met the love of his life, Lidia, in 1972 at a wedding and they were married the next year. Henry was an avid hunter and lover of nature. He founded a hunting club which served lunch to many friends and community members called “The Clubhouse”. His days were enriched by the simple joys of tending to his garden, meticulously mowing the grass, and nurturing the land he cherished at Harbat Farm. He also enjoyed traveling the world with Lidia, and they were lifetime members of the Circulo Hispano Americano De Princeton, where they enjoyed monthly gatherings and developed lasting friendships.
Henry dedicated his life to his work. He lived a life marked by his compassion, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. He possessed a genuine openness to listen and provide guidance when needed. He will be remembered by his dry sense of humor and his love for the land and animals.
