The Trenton Thunder fell to the State College Spikes, 7–1, on Saturday night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark in front of a sold-out crowd of 7,356.
Trenton starter Brian Young delivered a strong outing, holding the Spikes to one run over six-plus innings. The Rider University product and MAAC Pitcher of the Year retired 10 consecutive batters at one point before State College broke through in the seventh.
With the game tied 1–1, the Spikes took the lead on an RBI single to center, then capitalized on a pair of Thunder errors to extend the lead. State College scored five runs in the inning and added another in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Trenton’s only run came in the second inning on an RBI single from Jared Beebe. The Thunder left five men on base, including runners in scoring position following a leadoff double and a one-out double in the later innings.
The Thunder close out the brief two-game series against the Spikes on Sunday evening at 5 p.m. as part of Italian Heritage Celebration Night. The first 1,000 fans ages 5–13 will receive a Cloudman Cape Drawstring Bag, courtesy of Valley Spas & Pools.
