Mercer Street Friends Distributes 10,000 Turkeys Ahead of Thanksgiving

by Community Contributor

Mercer Street Friends, the Feeding America food bank for Mercer County, has completed the distribution of 10,000 turkeys to more than 100 pantry and community partners ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The effort wrapped up Tuesday, Nov. 18, with agencies including Arm in Arm, HomeFront, East Trenton Collaborative, St. Raphael–Holy Angels, and Mt. Carmel Guild–Catholic Charities now preparing to redistribute the turkeys to families facing food insecurity.

The organization said demand for nutritious meals is higher this year than in recent memory, and the large-scale distribution is part of its ongoing work to meet rising food-assistance needs across Mercer County.

This year’s turkey drive was made possible through support from Wakefern, Capital Health, Johnson & Johnson, Bank of America, and Bloomberg Philanthropies—partners Mercer Street Friends credits with helping ensure thousands of local families will have a holiday meal on their tables.
