New Jersey Senior Citizen Art Show Celebrates 60th year in Mercer County

by Community Contributor

The 60th Annual New Jersey Senior Citizen Art Show will open Monday, Sept. 28, at Meadow Lakes Senior Living in East Windsor, bringing together approximately 300 works by older artists from across the state.

The exhibition, which will remain open through Nov. 4, represents the culmination of local Senior Citizen Art Shows held throughout New Jersey this year. Every work selected for the statewide exhibition earned first place in a local show.

Professional and non-professional artists will be represented across 11 categories: acrylic, craft, digital art, mixed media, oil, pastel, photography, print, sculpture, watercolor and works on paper.

A panel of three professional artists will judge the exhibition, selecting first-, second- and third-place winners and honorable mentions in each category. Best in Show awards will also be presented to one professional and one non-professional artist.

“We’re honored to once again be selected to host the New Jersey Senior Art Show in partnership with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts,” Mercer County Executive Dan Benson said. “Art is an essential part of a strong community, and communities thrive when the arts thrive. Our seniors bring a lifetime of unique experiences and perspectives to their work, and we’re proud to showcase their inspiring talent.”

The annual exhibition is a collaboration between the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and Mercer County Division of Culture & Heritage.

“It’s important to elevate the artists who participate in opportunities like the County Senior Art Exhibitions,” said Stephanie Nerbak, artist services manager at the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. “We want to encourage artists of all ages to continue exploring and sharing their creativity throughout life, and look forward to celebrating this milestone anniversary with this year’s featured artists.”

An awards ceremony and closing reception will be held later this fall to recognize participating artists and announce the winners.
