Hopewell Township residents gathered at Woolsey Park on Saturday for an afternoon of history, community activities and entertainment as the Township marked the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The Oct. 3 celebration was part of the Township’s commemoration of America’s 250th and featured historical reenactors and exhibits, music, food trucks, games and activities, a bounce house and displays from local organizations and emergency services.

The afternoon’s program opened with Hopewell Township’s official town crier, Stanley Saperstein, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Hopewell Township Honor Guard, Girl Scout Service Unit 701 and Boy Scout Troop 44. Joseph Novak sang the national anthem.

Mayor David Chait and the the Township Committee honored local volunteers during the program, which also included Dr. Ronald Rinaldi appearing as George Washington.

Around the park, residents could visit community organizations and vendors, grab something to eat, see vehicles and equipment from Hopewell Township police and emergency services, and take part in family activities.
