After two rainouts and a stormy Friday afternoon, the rain stopped just in time for Hopewell Borough’s long-awaited Cruise Night — and the classic cars rolled in.
Nearly 30 vehicles lined Broad Street on Friday, June 6, drawing residents and visitors to admire everything from vintage roadsters to modern sports cars. Families strolled the blocks, music and conversation drifting from open storefronts and outdoor tables as kids peered into polished interiors and custom paint jobs.
Among the eye-catching entries was a rare 1954 Kaiser Darrin — a fiberglass roadster that beat both the Corvette and Thunderbird to market. Designed by Dutch-born Howard Darrin, the sleek car featured lightweight construction, an unusually long profile, and sliding doors that disappeared into the front fenders — a patented design Darrin had envisioned nearly a decade earlier.

Also turning heads was a 1952 Flxible Visicoach, a gleaming green-and-white bus turned motorhome. Originally built in Ohio as part of Flxible’s postwar expansion into longer touring coaches, this particular model now travels in vintage style with motor amenities tucked inside.
From 1950s cruisers to a lime-green McLaren, the variety of vehicles on display showcased decades of automotive design. The Hopewell Fire Department staffed the route, raising funds through a classic coin toss with members filling boots with donations.
Organized by the Hopewell Borough Recreation Committee, the event brought the community together for a night of conversation, chrome, and small-town charm — well worth the wait.
