Driver Arrested After Crashing into Stop & Shop

by Community Contributor

On May 30th Hopewell Township Police responded to the Stop & Shop located at 800 Denow Road for a reported car crash into the plaza building itself. Initial reports of the incident advised that the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene on foot.

Hopewell Township Police, Pennington Borough Police, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, and Pennington Fire Company all responded to the scene.

Officers searched the area and ultimately located the driver approximately ¼ mile from the crash scene. The driver was identified as an 18-year-old Pennington resident. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.

The investigation on scene showed that he was operating a 2023 white Genesis GV7 in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop Plaza when he struck two parked vehicles and attempted to flee the scene. As he attempted to flee in the vehicle, he appeared to have lost control and struck one of the support pillars at the entrance of the Stop & Shop building. Then he exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

There were no injuries suffered by the driver, or any other person. No pedestrians were struck and the other vehicles that were struck during the incident were unoccupied. The Stop & Shop building was deemed safe after inspection and suffered no structural damage.
