Families Flock to Kunkel Park for Borough’s Easter egg hunt

by Seth Siditsky

Hundreds of children, parents, and neighbors gathered at Kunkel Park on Saturday morning for Pennington Borough’s annual Easter egg hunt — a springtime tradition that keeps growing year after year.

Hosted by the borough’s Parks and Recreation Commission, the family-friendly event kicked off at 9:30 a.m. with the Easter Bunny on hand for photos, high fives, and plenty of hugs. Kids explored the playground and sandbox while parents, coffee cups in hand, mingled and caught up on weekend plans.

The crowd brought plenty of color to match the season. Children arrived with baskets of all shapes and sizes — from woven classics to plush unicorns and shiny totes. Bunny ears were a popular accessory, along with pastels, spring dresses, and fuzzy socks.

“This event just keeps getting bigger and bigger,” said Parks and Recreation Chair Brett Margulis. “We gave out more than 75 pounds of candy this year.”

Thousands of colorful plastic eggs were scattered across the park and grouped by age, ensuring every child had a decent chance to collect some. And then just after 10 a.m., the hunt began — and within minutes, every egg had been scooped up.

Children lined up to trade in their eggs for candy, while others lingered in the park to play and enjoy the spring weather. After the candy was collected, and traded with friends, people had begun to head out, baskets in tow and smiles all around.
