Fire Damage to Structure on Federal City

by Mary Galioto

Late last night, the Hopewell Township Police Department along with the Pennington Fire Department responded to a Federal City Road address for the report of a structure fire. The fire was called in by the resident who arrived home to find his detached finished gazebo on fire. Officers arrived to find the structure completely engulfed in flames.

The gazebo was described as a two story, octagon shaped, fully enclosed structure used for recreational purposes and included electrical, heating and cooling utilities with a walk out basement. The gazebo was in the process of being renovated.

The fire was extinguished by the Pennington Fire Company with a water supply via tankers under the command of Chief James Deforte. Additional units responded from the Hopewell Fire Department, Union Fire Company, Lawrenceville Fire Company, and the Pennington First Aid Squad.

The fire caused extensive damage to the structure. While the fire does not appear suspicious at this time, it remains under investigation by Hopewell Township Police Department Detective Frank Tulko and Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Unit Specialist Robert Bailey.

There were no reported injuries.
