From the Towns: update to Beigene traffic disruption in Pennington

by Community Contributor

To the Residents and Businesses:

I am writing to inform you of impending changes to the timing of Beigene’s heavy load trucks moving through Pennington Borough.

Through the end of this week, Beigene will be moving the heavy loads through Pennington on North Main Street and West Delaware Avenue after 1pm. In order to minimize disruption to North Main Street and the business district, beginning on MONDAY, JUNE 12 we are anticipating the heavy load trucks will move through town between 9am and 10am. If Beigene can consistently meet this time condition, then we will require that they do so daily for the rest of the summer. If they cannot, then we will require the 1pm movement through town.

For your information, it is anticipated that another mega heavy load (similar to the one this past Tuesday) will move through the Borough on Monday, June 12th. Beigene will suspend truck movements on Thursday, June 15 and Friday, June 16 because of the half-day school schedules. We are requiring this out of an abundance of caution for our school age pedestrians. Also, the company will not move loads through Pennington on Monday, June 19 in recognition of the Juneteenth holiday.

On behalf of the Borough Council, I want to thank the Pennington community for your understanding and patience during this period of disruption. As I previously communicated, Borough Council President Kit Chandler and I voiced our strong objections to this idea of bringing 235 heavy loads through the Borough, especially since there was an alternative around Pennington; however, we were rebuffed by the County Administration and Commissioners.

I will keep you informed if there are any changes to the plan described in this letter. Thank you.

Peace, Jim Davy,

Mayor – Pennington Borough

Editor’s Note: This letter from Mayor Davy is his second on the subject this month. See the previous information here.
