Great Timing by Union Fire Company saves house

by Amie Rukenstein

On Sunday evening, Union Fire Company reported the following on their Facebook page:

“While on the street, #Engine53 and #Deputy53 noticed a column of black smoke coming from the rear of a house. Deputy 53 filled the box while the engine company evacuated residents and stretched a line extinguishing an outside fire with minor extension into the residence.”

Homeowner Shannon Smith Davila told MercerMe: “We had an exterior fire that was spreading into the house. As I was running out of the smoke filled house with my son and dogs, the firefighters were running into my backyard. Turns out that they were returning from the fire vs police football game and while driving past my home they saw the smoke. Ryan Finnegan was the first to see it and he told his captain to turn around. Ryan and other others saved my home today. They are true heroes.”

Finnegan is a life-long Titusville resident who graduated from HVHCS in 2018 and has been involved with the Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad since he was a teenager.
