Today, at approximately 10:49am, a backhoe operator for Pave Patrol, from Ewing, NJ, struck and ruptured a ½ inch underground natural gas main in front of 215 North Main Street.
The Hopewell Township Police Department along with personnel from the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, the Pennington Borough Police Department, the Pennington Fire Department and Pennington First Aid Squad responded to the area.
Approximately eight homes along North Main Street were evacuated as a precaution. Elizabethtown Gas personnel were able to shut off the gas and the roadway was reopened by 12:30pm. All of the residents were able to return to their homes.
There were no injuries.
It’s also a good idea to keep at least a half tank of gas in your vehicle on a routine basis in case of an unexpected need to evacuate. If your home was in danger and your neighborhood needed to be evacuated you be notified by an emergency representative or if you are not home, you may find this door hanger.
