Hopewell Valley Lacrosse Team Honors First Responders with Annual Tribute Game

by Mike Chipowsky

On Saturday afternoon, the Hopewell Valley Central High School Boys’ Lacrosse Team hosted its annual Salute to First Responders game at Ackerson Field, bringing together the community to recognize and thank local emergency personnel—and to give back.

In addition to honoring first responders, the team used the event as a fundraiser to support the agencies that serve Hopewell Valley. The Pennington Fire Company provided a picnic for all in attendance, creating a welcoming space for first responders, families, and fans. Pennington Fire Company Chief Roger Demareski kicked off the event with a warm welcome and words of appreciation to the team for their continued support.

Before the game began, Hopewell Fire Department Battalion Chief Joseph Novak sang the National Anthem. Representatives from emergency service departments across Hopewell Valley—including the Hopewell Township Police Department—were on hand in full support.

One of the highlights of the afternoon came when a medivac helicopter from the Jefferson Hospital System landed near the field, giving attendees an up-close look at this critical resource for emergencies.

Although the Bulldogs played a hard-fought match, they ultimately came up short against Notre Dame. Still, the day was a clear win for community spirit, heartfelt recognition, and a show of support for Hopewell Valley’s first responders.
