HV Arts Council members remind us that “This Too Shall Pass”

by Community Contributor

The Hopewell Valley Arts Council announces its third annual members show, This Too Shall Pass, featuring more than 40 pieces created during the health crisis. The show will be on display from Friday, July 17 to Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the Hopewell Valley Bistro & Inn.

“The global health pandemic brings with it fear, dislocation, and loss but it is also a unique opportunity to reflect and reprioritize,” said Carol Lipson, HV Arts Council executive director. “As artists, we jump at the opportunity to dive into our creative activities, often with a surge of inspiration, during difficult times like these.”

This diverse portfolio of work was created by supporters of the HV Arts Council and includes meaningful images from self-taught to professionally trained artists. Each piece of art also is displayed with the artists’ own statement describing the inspiration and how making art helps them cope during this challenging time.

“The first few weeks of social distancing were very difficult. The good thing that came out of it is that I was able to create my fantasies,” said member mosaic artist Leyla Spencer. “There were days when I just wanted to see the ocean, so I did a few oceanside mosaics, and then there were days when I wanted color, so I expressed myself with lots of colored glass and tiles. In a way, it was a blessing to have uninterrupted time.”

Artists include: Barry Hantman, Janneke Vanderree, Gary Fournier, Brenda Karaburk, Jim Angelus, Susanne Pitak Davis, Judith Snedeker, Leslie Pell, Michael Ruger, Leyla Spencer, Cheryl Bomba, George Olexa, Lucia Stout, Morris Docktor, Jane Zamost, Agata Scibich, Kate Pollack, Spriha Gupta, Janet Purcell, Janis Blayne Paul, Connie Braccie-McIndoe, Ken McIndoe, Jennifer Driscoll, Susan Mitrano, Anne Nixon-Ellery, Caroline Hall, Barbara DiLorenzo, Sarah Bernotas, Linda Martin-Mills, Claire Wille, Linda Bradshaw, and Carol Lipson.

“We hope “This Too Shall Pass” will encourage the community to come out of their homes, be rejuvenated by your artwork, and safely break bread together in support of one of our local restaurants,” said Lipson.

All artwork is available for purchase and both benefits the artists and supports the mission of the HV Arts Council.

The show will be on display from Friday, July 17 to Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the Hopewell Valley Bistro & Inn at 15 East Broad Street, Hopewell, New Jersey, 08525.

Social distancing and state-mandated safety practices will be in place. For show and restaurant hours, see http://www.hopewellvalleybistro.com.
