HVBOE Talks Teacher Contract Updates

by MercerMe Staff

The Hopewell Valley Board of Education gave an update on the ongoing teachers’ contract dispute at the January 14, 2019 meeting.

“We spent four and a half hours in attempt to negotiate the terms of the new contract and forgo the hearing,” said Board of Education president Alyce Murray. “While both sides made strides, ultimately all necessary issues could not be agreed upon…

“It would be six to eight weeks before a report could be completed. Our options are to wait the out two month period and receive the Fact Finder’s recommendations or continue to schedule discussions with the Association to gauge movement on the issues holding up an agreement.

“To be clear: the Board has every intention to meet the Association at any mutually agreed upon time or day to come to resolution on the contract but, until such time, the teachers will continue to work under the salary and benefits of their last contract,” said Murray.
