HVCHS senior one of three to receive statewide scholarship award

Ethan Block accepts scholarship award from Mayor Joe Lawver at a ceremony on Sunday.

Ethan Block, a senior at Hopewell Valley Central High School and Pennington resident, was awarded the Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship on Sunday. This scholarship program is sponsored by the New Jersey League of Municipalities. More than 40 New Jersey seniors were named finalists but only three awards were given.

The purpose of the scholarship is to advance the virtues of elected and volunteer positions in municipal government while raising awareness of municipal government in general. Block has been an active volunteer throughout his high school career.

This scholarship competition honors Bay, who was Mayor Emeritus of Hawthorne and actively participated as a board member and president of the League of Municipalities for 60 years. Block will graduate from HVCHS this year June and will attend Rutgers in the Fall.
