The following is a message from Lawrence Township:

Mother Nature Festival – This Weekend: Come out and enjoy the activities at the Mother Nature Festival this Saturday, May 13, 2017 between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (rain or shine).  It will take place at the Lawrence Nature Center located at 481 Drexel Avenue.  See attached flyer for more details.

Health Fair: Lawrence Township is having a Health Fair on May 16 between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm at the Senior Center. See flyer for more details. Also be aware that a secure Medicine Drop Box will be available at the Health Fair.

Free Trees: Lawrence Township is participating in the New Jersey Recovery Campaign.  Free bare root Northern Red Oak and Black Gum tree seedlings are available in the Planning Office at the Municipal Building Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. while supplies last.

Memorial Day Parade: Memorial Day is fast approaching and we are busy preparing for the parade.  There is still time for you or your group to participate and march in the parade on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.  After the parade, a memorial service will be held at Lawrence Veterans Park.  If you are interested in participating in the parade, go to the our website for the participation form:  http://www.lawrencetwp.com/rec.html

Lawrence Township Receives Grant to Distribute Radon Kits to Residents: The Lawrence Township Health Department has received a grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to purchase radon kits for use by Lawrence Township residents. The kits will be available on a first- come, first-served basis. There will be a limit of one free test kit per household. These kits will be available for pick up at the Lawrence Township Health Department, 2207 Lawrence Road, during normal business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Please note the kits are available for use in Lawrence Township homes only. Proof of residency will be required at the time the kit is issued. For more information, please contact the Lawrence Township Health Department at 609-844-7089.

Children’s Summer Camp: Lawrence Township Recreation offers a wide variety of children’s summer camps, such as Art/Theater Camp, Sports Camp, Park Camp, Safety Town Camp, Teen Travel Camp, Police Academy, and coming soon Nature Center Camp.

Road Work:

  • NJDOT Project – Route 206 Bridges over Stony Brook: Please be advised that NJDOT will be completing repairs to bridges over the Stony Brook along US Route 206 just south of Quaker Road in Princeton. A detour is required to complete this project. Construction is anticipated to begin soon and continue through December 2017.   During the detour US Route 206 will be closed to all traffic. In addition, night time work (6pm to 11pm Monday – Saturday) is anticipated while the detour is in place.
  • NJDOT Project Continues – Deck Replacement and Resurfacing of I-295 Ramps to Route 1:  The construction project continues on the ramps to Route 1 both northbound and southbound.  Construction schedules change as the project progresses.  Follow the posted detours from NJDOT.  The detour will continue as needed to I-295 SB Exit 65A (Sloan Avenue) in order to U-turn and travel NB back to Route 1.  Please use caution in this area.
  • The Route #1 construction project is continuing as expected.  Caution should be used along this stretch of roadway and when entering and exiting the Brunswick Circle.
  • Walkway Closure: The Aqua site on Green Avenue is being repaired and resurfaced along the north walkway between Green Avenue and Marion Place for approximately two weeks (from May 8 through May 19). The Johnson Trolley path may be utilized as an alternate during this time.
  • Province Line Road: Please be advised that starting on May 2, 2017, Province Line Road (between US Route 206 and Princeton Pike) will be closed to all traffic in the northbound direction. The southbound lane will remain open to traffic. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Fackler Road. It is anticipated that this detour will be in place for approximately 2 weeks between the hours of 9am and 4pm.

Brush and Branch Collection

  • The week of May 15 is Zone 3 – Yard waste must not be placed at the curb prior to your designated collection week. Residents may place brush at the curb the weekend before their scheduled collection week.
  • Yard waste and vegetative materials shall not be placed in an area of the street greater than four (4) feet in height. All branches shall be no greater than 5 feet in length.
  • Tree limbs larger than 8 inches in diameter may not be disposed of through curbside collection.
  • Stumps, dirt, grass, sod, pressure treated wood, stones, plywood, and construction material will not be collected.
  • Yard waste shall not be placed within 10 feet from the nearest storm drain outlet.
