Letter to the Editor: HT Fire District Election in November

by Community Contributor

To the Editor:

In past years, today would have been the annual fire district election in Hopewell Township. However, due to an option that has been voted into state law there will be no election. Fire districts now have the ability to move the fire district election to the general election date in November. The Hopewell Township Fire District has exercised this option for several reasons including the hope that more voters will participate at that time.

The new rules basically follow the same changes that were put in place several years ago for the school board elections.

The Pennington Board of Fire Commissioners and the Hopewell Borough Board have opted to continue to hold their election in February. If you need information on their elections, I would suggest that you contact them.

No matter when the election is held, we must continue to support our firefighters and EMTs who give so freely of their time and talent to protect us.

Yours truly,
Michael A. Chipowsky
Chairman Hopewell Township Board of Fire Commissioners
