A community-wide event focused on LGBTQ+ advocacy, education, and support is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at Hopewell Valley Central High School.
The event, titled “LGBTQ+ 501: Come. Listen. Ask. Learn.”, will run from 10 a.m. to approximately 2–3 p.m., with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. It will take place in the Community Room at the high school.

Advance registration is required for all attendees.
Organized by Hope Rises Up and Prism—Bending the Light, the event is being held in partnership with the Hopewell Valley Regional School District and the Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance. The program is a day centered on education, advocacy, and community-building around issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community, particularly students.
The program will begin with a shared opening session, followed by two breakout sessions led by professional panelists and community leaders. A student panel featuring LGBTQ+ middle and high school students is also planned as part of the day.
Topics expected to be covered include LGBTQ+ mental health, creating affirming school and faith environments, navigating resources for youth and families, and supporting transgender and nonbinary children. Additional sessions will explore policy protections for LGBTQ+ youth, inclusive classroom practices, and personal experiences from young adults.
Organizers say the event is designed to provide both practical resources and space for conversation, bringing together students, families, educators, and community members.
Childcare and lunch will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle or beverage.
Registration is open online for those planning to attend.
