Hopewell Valley Soccer Association

Division 2

Saturday September 26

Saturday’s soccer game was an epic battle between two great teams. Hopewell Express defeated one of its strongest rivals, Clarke Insurance, by a score of 7-6. Both teams undoubtedly put on a delightful soccer feast for the spectators.

Hopewell Express got off to a fast start taking a quick 3-0 lead on two goals by Sophia Landolina and one by Morgan Upson.  The Express’ Sophia Landolina would score two more goals in the second quarter and Sloan Ritter, Eva DeMinico, Reese Bourne, and Kayal Kasi would hold down the defensive end with Emma Luciano and Morgan Upson in goal. Express teamwork kept Clarke Insurance off the board and gave the Express a 5-0 lead at the half.

After the half, Clarke Insurance had a magnificent comeback, led by 4-goal scorer Celia Carsky-Wilson, Kate Krupa, and June Branham. Olivia Hack and Olivia Armendinger formed an impenetrable defense for Clarke Insurance under the pouring rain during the second half of this remarkable soccer match. Express goals by Natalie Frush and Morgan Upson, and stellar goaltending by Brigid Falk and Reese Bourne along with great defense by Ashley Kurian and Lauren Dwyer would enable the Express to escape with a 7-6 victory.

Also on Saturday, Team Fyrefly Yoga battled team Greenleaf Landscaping to a 1-1 tie.  For the Fyreflies, the entire team showed amazing hustle, but the day was carried by the defense and the goal keepers. Both Teagan Rodgers and Eva Rossy had excellent games defending and the game was saved by Eva McNally who stopped a Greenleaf breakaway while in the goal.

Sunday September 27

Clarke Insurance and Greenleaf Landscaping played to a 1-1 draw. Clarke Insurance scored first with a goal from Kate Krupa in the first half. In the beginning of the second half, Greenleaf balanced the game and scored an equalizer. During the last quarter, Eleanor MacDonald sprinted into Greenleaf Landscaping’s 18-yard box and made a nifty move around the opponent defenders. Kelly Hujber took the lead on holding the defense line for Clarke Insurance to secure the draw in the second half.

Team Fyrefly Yoga defeated team Hopewell Express 5-2 in a game that was close until late in the fourth quarter. Theresa Fox carried the Fyreflies to victory with an impressive 4 goals. The hustle of mid fielders of Kylie Ewart and Sasha Heimann helped push team Fyrefly Yoga to victory.

Division 3

Pixie Salon and M3 played hard against each other on both Saturday and Sunday ending in ties both days.

On Saturday, Pixie Salon came out strong and was up 1-0 within the first five minutes. However, a solid defense led by M3’s Emma Stowe and Carolan Falk emerged, while up the field Angie Wilson scored two phenomenal goals assisted by Gracie Cooper. Due to fast speed from midfielders, Adhya Pandit and Tina Zheng, as well as Eleanor Farmer’s aggression in goal, M3 held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first half The second half saw a third and final shot again by Angie Wilson, giving her her first hat trick of the season, while Izzy Trupin, Abby Gola, and Eliana Fastag-Rosenfield held the defensive line. In the end, Pixie’s Angelyn Li had scored two goals and Kaylie Weeast scored one goal. The final score was 3-3.

On Sunday, Pixie’s Samantha Weeast had a shut out game in goal.  Defense was led by Maggie Woodside with great teamwork from Sophia Acerenza, Luca Burd, Lola Caruso, Aarya Joshi, Daphne Edmond-Marietti, Andrea Odaa, Alexandra Rowe, Siria Vallucci, and Ainsley Weed who left it all out on the field.
