This week introduces MercerMe’s first installment of Sports Round-up.  We are starting small but will add more each week, so be sure to check back every Monday to see what’s going on in Hopewell Valley sports.  If you are a student interested in reporting on school or other local sports, please send an email to [email protected].

Hopewell Valley girls varsity volleyball played four games this week, losing two and winning two. On Monday, CHS lost to Northern Burlington in two sets, 16 to 25 in the first and 14 to 25 in the second. Despite the difficult game, the team put up a good fight with a few aces and kills along the way. 

On Wednesday, the Bulldogs pulled out an extraordinary win against Rancocas Valley in three sets. While Rancocas Valley won the first set 25 to 17, Hopewell pulled out the following two sets 26-24 and 25-18 with several good sets by Corrina Weyhrich and kills by Hae-Won Han. The CHS girls also played Princeton Day School on Thursday, winning in two sets. The scores were 25-12 and 25-17, giving them another win.  On Saturday, the girls fell to the Hillsborough Raiders, losing in two sets, 10-25 and 8-25, despite several kills recorded by Sofie Ragins. – Emilie Sawicki

Meanwhile, the Hopewell Valley Boys Varsity Soccer team played three hard-fought games, winning 1 and dropping 2. On Tuesday they fell to West Windsor-Plainsboro South 3-0, but recovered to beat Lawrence 2-1 on Thursday, with Alex Tagliareni and Zach Crow scoring goals. On Saturday, Varsity battled South Jersey power Delran and lost 3-2, with goals by Zach Crow and Alex Tagliareni. The Bulldogs’ record stands at 8-2 for the season. Their next game is at home on Tuesday against Notre Dame. – Christopher Sawicki
