Vehicles Broken into Around the Township and Fraudulent Checks Cashed

Car Broken into on Navesink Drive

On May 20, Officer Arthur Juba responded to a Navesink Drive address for a report of vehicle burglary. The victim stated that their vehicle was entered overnight between April 28th and April 29th. The victim reported that their wallet was stolen from inside the car, which contained personal items and identification. The vehicle showed no signs of damage; however the center console was opened. The victim noticed their wallet missing at that time and contacted police. The matter is under investigation.   

Fraudulent Check for $20,000

Officer Neil Hunt responded to a Carter Road address on May 24 for a report of theft with a fraudulent check. The victim stated that a check for over $20,000 was issued for payment to a business company. The victim found that the check was deposited into a different account at a completely different bank. The victim also found that a second check was attempted to be cashed against their account thereafter. Further details were provided to police on scene, and the matter is under investigation.

Fraudulent Email Scam

On May 22 Officer Marissa McCallum met with the victim of fraud in the HTPD lobby. The victim stated that their employer notified them of emails requesting that their direct deposit be sent to a different account. The account was confirmed to have been fraudulent and no monetary loss was suffered. The victim was advised to continue to monitor their bank accounts for any suspicious activity. The investigation is ongoing.  

Car Broken into at Mercer Meadows

Officer Blake DeMeter responded to Mercer Meadows Park on May 23 for a report of a vehicle burglary. The victim reported that they parked their vehicle at 4:45PM and when they returned at 5:10PM they found their vehicle was broken into. The front driver’s side window was smashed and their purse containing their iPhone and wallet were stolen from the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.  

Man Asleep on Denow Road

On May 26 Officer Brandon Kuzma responded to the area of The Learning Experience on Denow Rd for a report of a male asleep in the grass. Officer Kuzma made contact with the male. In talking with the man, Kuzma offered him a ride and assistance. However, he was found to have a number of active warrants for his arrest out of Trenton, Newark, and Elizabeth. They were arrested on scene and transported to HTPD for processing. He was ultimately released on his own recognizance with new court dates. Officer Kuzma provided a courtesy transport to his requested location.  

DUI Arrest After Crash

Officer Maria Gavdanovich responded to a motor vehicle crash on May 26 at Washington Crossing Pennington Road and Bear Tavern Road. Upon arrival, she made contact with the driver. Due to suspicion of driving under the influence, they were asked to perform field sobriety tests roadside. At the conclusion of which, she was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to HTPD for processing. They were charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, Open Container, and Following to Closely. She was later released with a court date. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.
