To the Editor,
I want to thank borough residents for giving me the opportunity to serve our community these past three years. It has in particular been an honor and privilege to advance the cause of pedestrian and bike safety in the borough.
Since being elected to Borough Council in 2022, I have worked to lower the speed limit to 25 mph for the entirety of Broad Street and improve the safety of our busiest intersections by eliminating right turns on red. I led our effort to secure a federal Safe Routes to School grant that will fully fund $1.51 million in infrastructure to improve pedestrian and bike safety, and worked with partners to develop a traffic calming project for N. Greenwood Ave.
I am running for reelection to continue and build on this work over the next three years. We aim to begin installation on the Greenwood project as soon as next week and I hope to develop similar initiatives throughout town. We’re about to embark on the design and implementation of the Safe Routes to School grant-funded projects. We also are preparing to update our Complete Streets Ordinance to focus not just on safety but sustainability and green infrastructure.
Work on this particular issue will never be complete, but I believe we have a firm foundation on which to seek more funding, build more support, and get closer to our goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
I will continue to work tirelessly toward these goals, and as always, base every decision I make as a member of council on what is best for the community.
Thank you,
Krista Weaver
