Alternative Solutions to Selling Water Should Be Explored

by Community Contributor

To the Editor:

In reading the September 13 article, “Hopewell Borough Residents Crowd Meeting on Water Sale as Referendum Nears,” I was shocked to see Mayor Ryan Kennedy directly supporting the sale of the water system in a joint press release with New Jersey American Water.

This press release comes less than 24 hours after, during the same public meeting on which is being reported, Mayor Kennedy repeatedly stated that he and the whole Council are deeply committed to continuing to look for a solution that does not involve selling our water to a private for-profit company. He stated repeatedly that he was open to hearing what anyone has to say and would be open to conversations and meetings.

There are alternative solutions to selling Hopewell Borough’s water.

Sincerely,

Kate Toth
