Timberlane Student Earns Honorable Mention in Capital Health PSA Contest

by Community Contributor

Timberlane Middle School student Brittnie Cerdas earned an honorable mention in Capital Health’s Post Positive video contest for a student-produced public service announcement promoting kindness online.

Cerdas’ video, Be the Like Comments, was selected for recognition from among 547 submissions. Timberlane will receive a $2,000 award for its PTO/PTA to support future student programs and activities.

The contest was part of Capital Health’s Capital Healthy Students initiative, which challenges middle school students to create one-minute public service announcement videos around a health or wellness topic. This year’s Post Positive campaign asked students to develop peer-to-peer messages showing how a positive post can make a difference online.

Rebecca Kelly, executive director of Strategic Partnerships at Capital Health and lead for the Capital Healthy Students initiative, presented certificates to Cerdas and her teacher, Aaron Kearns.

“What I love most about this campaign is that the message comes directly from students themselves,” Kelly said. “Brittnie created her video entirely on her own, which speaks to the dedication and effort she put into the project. Through a creative storyline, she encouraged viewers to be the ‘like’ comments rather than the ‘hate’ ones.”

Kelly also credited Kearns for encouraging student participation.

“We’re truly grateful for dedicated educators like Aaron Kearns, whose support and enthusiasm inspire students to get involved and bring their ideas to life,” she said.

Other contest winners included Newtown Middle School for Most Impactful, Pennwood Middle School for Most Creative and Lawrence Middle School for Best Messaging.

Capital Health plans to launch its next student PSA campaign this fall, Let’s Clear the Air: The Truth About Vaping.

More of this year’s winning videos and additional information about the Capital Healthy Students initiative are available through Capital Health.
