I am a Hopewell Township resident, and I applaud Ewing Township for taking a courageous stand against further development in the southern section of Hopewell Township.
Hopewell Township is purposefully keeping high-density development south of the Pennington Circle, not only because of the proximity to the Ewing-Lawrence Sewerage Authority (ELSA) and Trenton Water Works (TWW), but because it is at the “Ewing” end of Hopewell Township.
Running a preschool at the border of Ewing and Hopewell Township, we have served both communities for more than 56 years. Anyone who has lived in the area for a while knows what I am implying.
By taking this stand, Ewing has done more to help preserve the beauty of Hopewell Township than the Hopewell Township Committee has done itself. I am so glad Ewing officials have added their collective voice to the opposition to irresponsible overdevelopment and the destruction of our natural resources.
The Bull Run Road woodlands are the last significant natural woodland environment remaining south of the Pennington Circle. There are wetlands, streams and ponds, old-growth trees and abundant wildlife, including box turtles, deer, foxes and birds of all kinds, including bald eagles.
Most of this land should be preserved.
Besides, it is very clear that our infrastructure cannot handle the amount of development that has already occurred.
Hopewell Township should be a better neighbor.
Thank you, Ewing.
