Hop into spring at WCSP for the HVCHS Class of 2024

by Amie Rukenstein

Come to Washington Crossing State Park on Saturday, April 22nd at 8am for Hopewell Valley Central High School’s inaugural Hopewell Valley Bunny Hop 5K. The Bunny Hop is a new spring community event for all ages, and participants are encouraged to run or walk the course with family, friends, and neighbors. It’s a great way to welcome Spring and enjoy our beautiful State park!

Proceeds will support the Hopewell Valley Central High School Class of 2024 and its senior year events, including Post Prom, a fantastic program that keeps kids safe after senior prom. Each year, for more than twenty-five years, parent volunteers, in cooperation with the HVCHS PTO, school administrators, and the Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance, have organized a large-scale event known as Post Prom. This memorable evening provides an alcohol and drug free alternative for all CHS students and their guests following the senior prom. Post Prom continues to be highly anticipated, well attended, and thoroughly enjoyed by CHS seniors! The parent volunteers also plan several other senior year events, including Senior Sunrise, Senior Sunset, and various senior week activities. The cost of these events is covered entirely by the support of parents, local businesses, and community organizations.  The Washington Crossing Park Association, which is the the friends’ group to the State Park, will receive a donation from the proceeds of the Bunny Hop.*

Participation awards will be given to the top HVRSD elementary school ($300), the top grade at Timberlane Middle School ($400) and top grade at Hopewell Valley Central High School ($500). All registrants are able to affiliate with one of these groups, as appropriate. The top three finishers (M/F) of each age group will be awarded David Bradley* chocolate bunnies, in honor of the inaugural race.

REGISTER HERE or go to www.hvbunnyhop5K.com for more information. Check-in on April 22 starts at 8am and the race will start at 9am. Fees range from $25 for early registration, to $40 for race day registration.

The Bunny Hop is expected to become one of Hopewell Valley’s most highly anticipated annual events and an opportunity to welcome spring with friends and neighbors in one of our beautiful local parks. This community event is open to everyone, runners and walkers alike. This is a USATF New Jersey 500 Point Event that will take place rain or shine.

Whether you are a tortoise or a hare, you won’t want to miss it!

*Edited 2/27/23 at 8:47 to clarify who is making the donation to whom and who is donating the chocolate bunnies!
