Hopewell Valley Regional School District announced in November of 2015 that Hopewell Valley Central High School principal, Michael Daher, would not be continuing his position as principal. After a message with possibly confusing word-choices, the District not only clarified the nature of the Principal Daher’s resignation / retirement but also announced that he would be delaying his departure until the end of the 2015-2016 school year.

The following is a message to the HVRSD from Superintendent Tom Smith:

Earlier this school year Mr. Michael Daher announced his retirement as the Principal of Central High School.   Throughout the search process, we were guided by a desire to find the right person to lead Central High School. After a thorough search process, we realized that the best person to fill the position is an administrator currently here in Hopewell.

On Monday, June 20,  I will be recommending Ms. Tana Smith as the next principal of Central High School.  Ms. Smith is an experienced administrator who currently serves as the principal of Toll Gate Grammar School.  Ms. Smith has been with the district since 2005 and has served as vice principal of Timberlane Middle School, supervised our district mathematics program and also taught high school math.  These experiences provide an excellent foundation to understand the complexities of leading a high performing high school like Central High School.

Ms. Smith and I have discussed her vision for Central High School which builds on the strong foundation established and continues our work to become the top high school in the state and nation – all while balancing our work to support and nurture the whole child.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Ms. Smith at a meet and greet for parents and students that will be scheduled later this summer.

Thomas A. Smith, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
