Weekday Diversions of NJ Route 29 South Bypass Traffic Scheduled to Begin Tomorrow Morning
Work on I-295 SB Access Ramp from Route 175 to Continue into Next Week;
Project Remains on Track to Meet Dec. 15 ‘Substantial Completion’ Target Date
The Route 29 southbound bypass lane that crosses beneath the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge is scheduled to be closed weekdays with traffic diverted through nearby service ramps and roundabouts starting approximately 7am tomorrow (December 2), the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.
The travel restriction is needed so work crews can install guiderails and accompanying asphalt along the bypass lane. The bypass lane crosses beneath the Scudder Falls Toll Bridge and enables southbound Route 29 motorists to avoid yields and roundabout travel movements within the I-295/Route 29 interchange (Exit 76).
The bypass lane is scheduled to be closed and detoured 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays until on or about Dec. 10. Detour map is below. The temporary travel restriction has been utilized previously without significant impacts.
The Commission also announced today that the remaining work along the nearby I-295 South entry ramp from NJ Route 175/Upper River Road is expected to continue into next week. Accordingly, that entry ramp is now expected to remain closed until on or about Wednesday, Dec. 8. Detour map below
Overall, work on the 4-1/2-year project’s final construction tasks is on pace to be completed by the Dec. 15 “substantial completion” target date – the point when motorists will no longer encounter long-term lane and ramp closures/detours. From that point on, only limited short-duration off-peak travel restriction will be needed to complete final “punch list” before the project achieves final completion in May 2022.
