Route 31 is scheduled to have overnight right lane closures in both directions tonight at the traffic circle (known locally as the “Pennington Circle”) where Route 31 meets Washington Crossing Road, Blackwell Road, and Pennington Road in Hopewell Township, Mercer County as a pavement preservation project begins in Mercer and Hunterdon counties.
Beginning at 9pm on Wednesday, June 12, until 6am tomorrow, Thursday, June 13, the right lane on Route 31 northbound and southbound is scheduled to be closed at the traffic circle in Hopewell Township. The lane closures are necessary for pavement repairs. At least one lane will be maintained during construction. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while driving through the work zone.
This work is part of a $5.7 million federally funded project that will preserve approximately 11 miles of pavement on Route 31 between Brandon Road in Hopewell, Mercer County and Route 202 in East Amwell, Hunterdon County. This project includes paving most ramps within the project limits. This project is expected to be completed in fall 2024.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
